Just test the water......

Postby boxerman » Mon Jun 23, 2014 9:47 pm

It's been a long time since anyone has posted in this forum so I'm just dipping my toe in to see there's any wood owners left alive from this area??

It'll be a while till I get my own but figured it might be good to get to know any other locals..

My browser shows me the unread posts but doesn't tell me where they come from.
Unfortunately, your post makes no sense. I can't tell which area you mean.
I don't know if it's just me, or if it's a common problem.
Good luck with your quest for a wood - wherever that is.
My wood is in South Herefordshire, if you're close.

You certainly posted it in Central.
I did not look in Central to view it - that's the problem.
I opened 'view unread posts' which doesn't allow me to know the individual forum it was posted in.
Hence it made no sense.
I look at one page that shows me all the new stuff.
My wood is in the Central region.

Hi Dave - yes I guess you're probably right that I should have been more specific. The problem is because I use this software to run a much bigger forum than this I guess I understand the workings far more than the average user but tend to assume everyone understands the same....... where's the 'embarrassed' smiley when you need it?

Just a little info that may or may not ever be useful though: one good thing about the design of this software is that it always tells you where you are or where you're going no matter the route you use to get there. I too usually use 'unread posts' and you'll find that each post on the list shows both the name of the thread and the name of the forum and the top of each pages tells you where you are now.

Hi Dave,
I open in 'unread posts' and the name of the forum is marked in the coloured bar

eg Board index ‹ Regional ‹ Central

Does it not show up in your set up?

Hi,
It's taken me a few minutes to try to find what you mean.
I do have an olive bar at the top with the words you mention.
I've never noticed it before.
I presume that with all the posts I've read, until today, didn't need the context of the originating forum.
I have just also noticed that Boxerman has Leicester as his location.
I obviously need to pay more attention to the periphery.
I've also noticed I posted in the Central forum in 2010 and need to update it.
Apologies to Boxerman for my ignorance and thanks for the info.

Might be the design of the graphic? sometimes you can look at something and not see it! I'm often accused of this, 50% of the poplulation or there abouts might refer to it as 'Man looking' but I couldn't possible comment!

now where's the send key...

Nothing to apologise for, Dave - we're all on a learning curve in some way or another....

The forum isn't only listed at the top of the page - if you open the list of unread posts you'll see that under each title is listed the name of the poster and the forum location before you open it. Can actually be quite useful on a busy forum if you have preferences of what is of interest and what isn't.
