Flights use less than you think. Have a look here it is nowhere near a year and short flights use proportionally more than long haul. As with so many people who live in London I don't own a car and that counts for a lot. The floods in the Levels, while a disaster for many, are not unique, 90 years ago the floods there were even worse.

Its for that reason I never fly abroad for my holidays- the carbon footprint of a flight to an (unspoilt?) holiday location is as much energy as you'd otherwise use in a year at home. -Does that matter? - Seen the news about the effects of man-made climate change in the Thames Valley today?

that's strange, did the locals not realise the benefits to the wildlife and extra income that would be generated to the local shops, although it does surprise me what with all the re-enactments that do seem to go ahead in Scotland without a hitch,maybe it was the booze with weapons that rung alarm bells or perhaps they have better method and risk assessments drawn up

looking on a positive note, one of my cousins used to be a member of the roundtable re enactment group, perhaps you could contact one of those, see if anything is available, it may not be in a woodland, but is better than nothing

As the bride loves woods, why not mark this occasion, by planting a couple of trees? Then they could come back every few years to see how much they have grown. I'd advise a sweet chestnut, in the event of a divorce its easier to cleave down the middle with one of your swords.

We really will go to extreme lengths not to piss people off. However, there will always be self appointed 'guardians' for whom anything they don't do will be inappropriate.
18 months ago we had a similar problem in Scotland. It was a Robin Hood themed party. When people heard there would be broadswords, claymores, bows and arrows and a bouncy castle they thought we were going to reenact the battle of Colloden so it had to be held in the bride's parents' back garden and the cops shut it down at 10pm. Sad but true. BTW no-one was even scratched at that wedding.

The scots were probably concerned about a small, well armed group were going to be descending upon them. They've had that happen before you know!!!!

I thought I would just add my two cents to this thread. As mentioned above my Claypaws, someone approached him wanted to plan weddings based in woods. That was me. Yes he decided against it, for the reasons given above, but having given us the same reasons, we realised he was right. Most natural woodlands are just not the place for the sort of thing we wanted to do, which sounds similar to you but on a smaller scale. I'm not having a bash at you for wanting to do this, but I do think you will struggle - espeically with 350 people. As mention before in this thread, that would need a very big clearing! Also as mentioned above, it isnt just the cute critters we think about that live in woodlands... not sure many brides or wedding guests would consider ticks or insect bites a great wedding favour, no matter how 'in touch' they are.

Whilst doing my research into this sort of thing we did come across a couple of places you might want to look at. They are doing this already, and have obviously done whatever they think they need to do to stop people getting hurt, and to limit the impact on the woods.
