The cubs come out to play

Postby boxerman » Sat May 02, 2015 10:55 pm

Well, the Badger cubs surfaced for the first time last night. Sod's Law dictated that it was the night I had the battery for the extra lighting at home and on charge so the video is a little grainy and not as good as it could have been. I counted four cubs (debatable amongst the squirming mass) but there may be more to come. They do look small compared to the adults....... https://youtu.be/eFE63z0vHtI

That's awesome!
Had a good giggle at the cub falling in the hole.

We have some footage of our badgers but nothing as good as this.
Nice one!

Thanks - yes, I had a laugh at the cub falling down the sett entrance too....

I'm reasonably pleased with what I'm getting now tho lighting is still a pain to get right and I still have a way to go on that. It's been extremely time consuming to get the vids to this sort of state but the differences are that, as I'm still saving for my wood, I probably have far more time to play with placement of the cams and the lighting than you do and I also have free and easy access to the sett as it's in my Mum's back garden only a couple of miles away so I can set equipment up and leave it without the fear of it being stolen and I can just leave the cams running 24/7. I actually get so much video that I throw away probably something like 98% of it....

I can understand the feeling of them being your badgers 'cos I feel much the same way with these - it's MY family and it's fun to watch them grow and play out their daily lives.

Here's another 5 minute clip of the cubs with slightly better lighting. One does a nosedive down the sett again......

Another great video there!
Being a local garden sett does have a huge advantage on the lighting and setup, mine are nothing like a good as this.

Sorting clips is very time consuming as you say, so it tends to mount up and I find it difficult to make time for.
However I managed to pick up a dose of food poisoning on friday, so this weekend has involved lots of not moving and given me time to finally sort my clips out.

A few videos are uploading as I write, I'll post links for public viewing later today hopefully.

It's difficult to tell who is mum to who... I've come to the conclusion that one mum has 3 cubs and another has one but one appears to have disappeared and it seems there are now only 3 - I'm hoping the 4th will reappear but.... It's absolutely fascinating watching the family in action.
