Tree identity for complete novice!!

Postby tomds » Mon Sep 17, 2012 1:45 pm

This may seem like a silly question, but I am completely new to the woodland world. Can anyone tell me what kind of trees the ones in the photo are??

Many thanks

Hi, almost certainly Hornbeam, which, has a smooth, green bark and oval jagged edged leaves .
Hornbeam can only be confused with Beach and there are very few of those where you are ( I'm assuming your location from the info you gave ).
Darling buds of may territory you say , so your near Pluckley ?, is it the woodland down Stanford Bridge on the way to Bethersden ?.
I have woodland in Ruckinge not 10 miles from Pluckley.
Welcome by the way.
