Just noticed the tops of some of our young larch trees are dead at the top. They are about 7yrs old. Could it be the cold start to the year. They are supposed to be frost susceptible. Anyone any experience of this?
I don't wish to alarm, because the symptoms you mention could be due to a number of factors, but to be safe, can you see anything else that may correlate with the following link?
I'm in the east in a low risk area for ramorum and I'm sure it's not that. I'm presuming it's frost damage , the other option Is larch canker but it doesnt really look like that. I just wonder how you ever get full grown larch if cold stops them. Presumably they grow out of it?
I suppose that it would be important to determine if this is one or two isolated die back incidents where the trees in question are beginning to be suppressed by neighbouring trees. Larch is a light demander and prefers well drained soils. What height are these trees ?
