Coppicing oak

Trees and Plants!

Hi All,

Does anyone know anything about coppicing oak? I've sometimes heard it called 'scrub oak' in relation to coppicing but that might just be lack of knowledge about the process.

Over here in France oak seems to be grown on a twenty to thirty year cycle for firewood as it grows very fast in comparision to even the south of the UK. My main reason for asking though is provide straight oak lengths for my partner who wishes to start making oak swill baskets.

Many thanks,
