I have heard that Heather grows in poor soil! I think it might just spread on it's own with some light?

There are two genuses of heather...which one have you got?

Heather (Calluna vulgaris) is widspread and the one that can tolerate bogs

Bell Heather (Erica (cinerea et al)) are your heath types

Hope this helps

I'm sowing heather where i've cleared bracken. There is a massive amount of seed in the soil underneath each plant. Take up a few handfuls and use it as you would seed. You can also cut off the tips and use those as seed.

Weedkill the areas you want to sow it in first.

Hmm thanks woodtroll. Its under Bracken and growing on clay, sowould that be the former type. i shall check. It looks like its losing a battle with the scots pine and spruce which are slowly colonising and maturing. I havent got it in the decidious areas.
