China plants 40 billion trees

Topics that don't easily fit anywhere else!

A snippet gleaned from the Forestry Jouornal:

Since 1981 China has planted 40 billion trees , doubling it's forest cover. It now has 175 million hectares. It is pumping $80 billion into it's forestry program.

Woodland creation in Wales has hit an all time low, with just 100 hectares created in 08/09.

And does this compensate for the massive devastation of Tibet's natural forests ?

Yet another "great leap forward" !

Let me guess - is 175 million hectares an area "the size of Wales"?!
