SWOG at Westonbirt

SWOG was once again invited down to Westonbirt to share the Woodlands.co.uk show tent.  It was generally well attended, despite the weather which turned out to be a warm and sunny Sunday, sandwiched by two days of rather less clement weather.

It was great to meet and sign up new members, some who were already woodland owners, some actively looking and some just interested in all things woodie.  For those who have not been to the show before, it is a nice mix of woodland crafts, tools displays and demonstrations.  This Shepherd’s hut complete with wood-burning stove is over 100 years old looked to me like the height of luxury compared to some of the old ‘bodgers hovels’ I’ve seen.

A rather more modern version was also being shown, complete with turf roof!

The show is held over the August bank holiday weekend every year, camping is available and if you’re travelling from further afield, it’s well worth staying an extra day or two as walking around the arboretum shouldn’t be missed and could easily take you a whole day.

Don’t forget SWOG will also be at Bentley in East Sussex 21st to 23rd September, do drop by the tent for a cup of tea and a chat.
