I am trying to locate suitable sites in which to reintroduce homes for colonies of honey bees where perhaps hollow trees once existed.
I use specific designed hives but install top bars within that encourage the colony of bees to produce their own specific style of brood / honey comb.
I allow the bees to follow their natural life cycle of swarming requeening and feeding on their own stored honey. My general approach is one of hands off albeit on occasions the beekeeper will need to intervene.
