As many have asked for a skills register, here it is ;-)

Please post in here your special area of experience, enjoyment, expertise or interests.

It could be jam making, fungi ID, edible plants, google searches... anything really

Don\'t be shy, you never know what you can do that will be invaluable to others!!!

I guess since I have started it, I should offer something.... I think I can offer contacts. With my work with woodlands.co and with WoodNet I am getting to know a variety of people.... or at least people who know people.

So, if you need something from someone, chances are I can find what you need. Oh, and I have the time to look!

I can offer advice, though only based on a year\'s experience - but perhaps you can learn from our mistakes as well as the things that went right! Topics include:

- coppicing

- chainsaw use and tree felling

- helpful woodland tools

- track repair

- building stoves/fires for cooking in the wood (I know a bit more about this one).

I am a retired wood scientist and can give advice on most thigs to do with wood production and utilisation. I may not always have the answer but can usually put you in touch with somebody who can. My specialisms are in saw doctoring, preservation, wood identification. However, I am insatiably curious and enjoy new challenges. (Sounds like a job application doesn\'t it!)

Mike and I think we will try making charcoal in our oil drums today - as long as the wind is not blowing towards the houses from the wood!

We are woodland managers and do all aspects of looking after woodland including fencing etc. as a job. We are down as a contractor, Wesnet Services Ltd. on the Woodlands website. We have our own wood in Hampshire, and have been trying to run courses on a number of subjects including tree identification and uses, flora identification, and basic woodland management. We hope to add woodland archaeology, and a few others as time goes on. We also do displays of green woodworking and pole lathe turning, and talks on woodlands.

We have done flora surveys of our own wood and helped or carried out surveys on a couple of others in our woodland complex, as well as knowing where to find a few interesting plants we have seen in our management.

Can offer advise on the forum as normal woodland owners on most of these topics. Hope this is of some use.

Hi, like Chris above we are also woodland managers but based down in North Cornwall and can offer advice on many aspects of woodland management and development. Possibly more usefully though, we speacialise in the design and construction of bespoke dry composting toilets and have built many, mainly in woodlands, sooner or later most people get fed up of doing the walk of shame with a spade! Alongside this we work with most types of timber buildings from woodsheds to cabins and are more than happy to offer free advice to forum users.
