Flights use less than you think. Have a look here it is nowhere near a year and short flights use proportionally more than long haul. As with so many people who live in London I don't own a car and that counts for a lot. The floods in the Levels, while a disaster for many, are not unique, 90 years ago the floods there were even worse.

Its for that reason I never fly abroad for my holidays- the carbon footprint of a flight to an (unspoilt?) holiday location is as much energy as you'd otherwise use in a year at home. -Does that matter? - Seen the news about the effects of man-made climate change in the Thames Valley today?
