Morning all.

Following on from an earlier post re the proposed purchase of a new chainsaw, I can confirm, finally, that I managed to get hold of a 6 month old Husky 346xp from ebay for £205 , what a bargain.

Had a play with it during the week felling some Hornbeam and Oak and I was amazed at the increased performance produced compared to my little 142.

I was forever having to sharpen the 142 to enable a productive session but with the increased acceleration and speed kicked out from the xp my file remained unused for a couple of hours.

I can now look on at the hornbeam as just another source of fire wood instead of a chain eating,back breaking,time eating foe. Walking through the woods, the sighs of relief from the Birch, Aspen and Ash are deafening !!.

Without doubt,the best 200 quid I've ever spent, and coming from me that's saying something !!.

There seems to be a few on ebay, try and look for one that has the grey clutch cover, think these are the later model.

As I say I only paid £205 for mine and only think its been used for a few hrs.

Think I got it cheap as the buyer wasn't prepared to post it, luckily it was only 5 miles away.

They usually go for £350 plus 2nd hand or £500 new, but with patience and a bit of strategic bidding ( if you know what I mean !! ), you can potentially pick one up remarkably cheaply.

I cant recommend the 346xp highly enough, fantastic bit of kit and a real joy to own and use.

I use my 346xpg daily and its a joy, the only draw back is that if left in the sun on hot days when the engine is hot it can be a pain to start after lunch. That said it's an great all midrang/ all round saw and can couple with most things well.

I had a play with a friends 560xp and, well, I'll be placing an order for one very soon.

my other half has a stihl one, but needs something with a bit more whack so it doesnt overstretch the engine

we just bought a logosol M& which has another stihl attached - think its called a MS660??? but its a monster of a beast and too powerful for everyday use. It will stay firmly fixed to the logosol. We need something in the middle, especially as we are predominantly hornbeam here....

The 346xp handles Hornbeam without any problems at all.

Assuming the chains sharp of course !!.

Light enough to swing around your head, powerful enough to take down a decent sized hornbeam.

(obviously swinging it around your head would be stupid)
