Husqvarna 390XP

I've got an itch that can only be scratched with some serious horse power! Was thinking about getting a 372XP, but then thought why not go the whole hog and get the 390 which weighs 700 grams more and has a fair bit more power.

Anyone any experiences of the 390? Are the pro grade husqvarnas still made in Sweden? My existing one was, but that was made in '00.

My 372 does the lot for me on its 24 or 18 bar and whilst 700g may seem light after a few days on the saw it'll take it's toll.

That's exactly what I was planning on running, getting the biggest available bar supplied with the saw from the shop (good value that way) and then going to Clark's at Parkgate and getting in a 18" bar for normal usage.

The same could apply to the 390xp with a 28" & a 20" bar if I go down that route. I think I need to handle both saws before I'll know what I could live with weight wise.

Is yours an X-Torq model? Do you think that improves them?

Mines not the x torque being nearly 6 years old. Not tried the newer model.

I remain to be convinced about the new technology that they add to chainsaws now. A friend had a 500 series with autotune, and it gave him no end of trouble.

Dave - Settled on a 385XP - pre x-torq. Initial findings are I'm very happy with it. Thanks for the advice.

I've got a bead on a S/H 357XP in a local chainsaw supplier, but very cautious, as there's pretty renowned carb problems with that model.

Used it yesterday. It pulls like a train! I think the 24" bar is plenty.
