Have you seen these?

Fit well in an urban-semi fireplace I would think?

Have to say I agree with Darren - fit it yourself it's not tricky. Some of the quotes we had for fitting a stove were just a joke!

For what it's worth based on previous experience we're expecting to burn about 15 tons of seasoned wood this year - giving all our heating and hot water. That's for a smallish 3 bedroomed old cottage made of mud and stone (impossible to insulate well). We keep it warmer than most would choose to at the moment though as we've got two young children.

BTW everyone I know with a Jotul thinks they're great

I had a stove fitted this year. I was going to do it myself but my House insurance required an installation certificate from a HETAS installer. I am sure you can probably get an installer to check and certify your installation but would definately check your house insurance to confirm cover.

To answer Steves query about the smokeless fuel, I just topped the fire up with 'Homebright' smokeless ovals and shut the damper down to minimal. They just smoldered away down to ash giving out a nice constant level of heat, ideal in mid winter with no one at home fit to carry the fuel and reload the fire at that time. It is just an anthrecite dust pressed to ovals and was the best type found that would burn consistantly with no interferance.

Hope this helps.

Try looking at STOVAX cassette fires with doors that keep the spits in
