Toothwort

Trees and Plants!

We have toothwort both ends of the bridlepath running through our wood. It is a very odd plant, as it is a parasite on hazel, field maple and a few other trees so it has no green parts at all. It is called toothwort because it bends over in a curve and the \'flowers\' look like teeth under the curve of the stalk. It is fawn or pinky fawn, and seems to grow in some places all the time but only come up occasionally in others.

So, is this something you need to remove from the woodland, is it invasive, or has it got its uses?

No, it is a fairly unusual plant, and does not seem to do the trees too much harm. It is not invasive; it seems to be in some places every year, and a few others occasionally. I do not think it has any particular use exept as an oddity.
