Rhododendron clearance and burning

Postby woodmonkey » Sat Nov 03, 2012 5:25 pm

Thanks for all the hlp on my chestnut tree problem, I would like to ask another question.. about clearing and burning rhododendron? I want to try round up some volunteers as soon as I officially own it, we had a cheeky first day as you can see here http://1000months.blogspot.co.uk/2012/10/first-visit-to-toms-wood.html but I have read a couple of reports about the smoke being toxic, (and a couple of people saying its ok) and Im worried especially for any volunteers if we have more bonfires and we have to really as there probably hundreds of tons of the stuff!

Thanks again

The process of burning Rhododendron doesn't have to be done with the volunteers, I'd personally suggest getting volunteers to help cut it and remove it, that's probably going to be the most labour intensive part of the job, and then putting it somewhere to dry and then burning it afterwards on a quiet dry, windy or foggy day without the need of volunteers.

That's how I'd do it.
