The Government have announced a new Chalara management plan that focuses on reduction in spread, and research to detect and breed from resistant trees. In particular there is likely to be funding to remove recently-planted (non-infected) ash trees in high priority zones, and to replant with other species. Also funding to remove infected recently-planted trees, mostly payable through the woodland grant schemes. Since we fall into one of the above categories (new woodland planted in 2010, not infected, in high priority zone), we are awaiting contact from the FC, but it looks like we will have to remove the ash, and either replant, or do nothing (since it is only 11% of the planted trees in the scheme).
