Hawthorn Blossom

Have noticed many Hawthorn in our wood have no blossom this year. Also more than half the hedgerow trees locally have no blossom, but those that do seem overloaded with flowers. Is this another case of our strange weather patterns in the south east or more general across the country. I have tried reading-up to see if Hawthorn tends to be a bi-annual flowering tree but have found no mention of it. Hopefully for the wildlife the trees that have flowered will pollinate and fruit well.

Quite possibly a local issue, as our hawthorn (common and Midland) are laden with flowers this year. So are the oaks. But blackthorn had almost no flowers (so another year without sloe gin). Elder yet to flower but lots of buds.
