How to look after an old hazel

Hi

What is the best way to look after an old neglected hazel
I suspect it is the only tree in my PAWS that is older than 60years old.
It has lot of old rotten branches and some new bits of regrowth

If it has plenty of regrowth around base I would coppice and use brash to protect regrowth from deer browsing by means of a piling around stool or a woven barrier
