Becoming more efficient

Trying these vented bags for log sales. Stack them with FEL two high with a pallet under each. I'm cutting out handling stages. Fell, ring, split, bag, store.

I've thought of using those vented bags, they look like a good idea, are you going to store them undercover?

How about:
Fell, ring, split, bag, deliver green to enlightened customer who buys firewood 2 years in advance...

Will cover top of stacks. I've got customers wanting green who've the space to season. It's the pricing I'm thinking about. My inputs are the same when the logs are in the bag. The only advantage to me it's I don't wait two years for cash and I get the bag back into use. Customers want a big discount but as cost of production the same I can't do it.

Drying logs for two years requires quite a bit of space.

I think that if I were the customer, I would expect to pay less for logs that needed two years seasoning than for "ready to burn". I'm not sure how much less though!!

For sure customers expect to pay less. The only added cost to me to store for 2 years is the opportunity lost to use the vented bag.

Therefore all I can offer is a £7 discount. All other costs of production have already been incurred.

Do you mean handling/lifting or are you querying the load weight limit issue?

Sorry slipped into short speak. FEL is front end loader on a tractor. On my old Ford will lift 1500kg. Weight of 0.75m3 wet logs between 400 & 500kg.

Trailer rated for 500kg but structurally good for double on my own ground. When I deliver it's one at a time on public roads with the second bag if needed in the van.

do you put green, wet wood in those bags ?

i can't see the point of bagging up wet stuff and storing it - not least because that takes up shed space - surely leaving outside on the wood floor to season naturally would be far more efficient
