We have a public footpath that runs through the middle of our woodland from north to south. The footpath is about 1,5m wide, 600m long, very muddy and eroded in some places. It was very overgrown when we bought the woodland a year ago now. Since then we cut back the trees and opened it up a bit so we have sunlight coming through and air circulating. We also put temporary drainage ditches in to drain most of the water from the footpath which stopped the erosion and dried it out a bit but it is still muddy.
We want to change the footpath into a stone track of around 2,5m wide, which will then be used for timber extraction as well. This way the walkers get a decent footpath and we get a good extraction road for our timber (only private use). This was included in our management plan which was approved by the FC. Does anybody know a reputable contactor working in the south east that can do this work for us?
