We had an unscheduled visit today, but not a nasty one. The Warwickshire County Forestry Officer phoned this morning to say he'd be with us at 11am. We have a planning application in for works to TPO protected trees. Some is for tree surgery, some is for stuff covered under our Forestry Commission Management plan. We know we don't strictly need permission for the latter, but it is nice to keep everybody in the loop, so we put it in anyway.
He visited us allegedly in connection with this, but really to have a good look round. It has been almost 2 years since he saw the wood. He seemed very positive about all the changes we had made. At the end he said "you have changed this from a neglected site that was declining into a managed site. Really excellent, carry on the good work!".
It is so very lovely to have your work appreciated by somebody who really knows, and clearly loves, his trees. That has boosted us up significantly prior to the Open Day this coming Sunday.
