Hello from a New Owner in Nettleton Shrub, Wiltshire

Postby WoodyWoodpecker » Tue Jan 19, 2016 12:29 pm

Hi Woodland Owners,

My parents moved to a new home towards the end of last year, comprising fields, deciduous woodland and a brook. The woodland was neglected by the previous owners with bad practices such as wrapping barbed wire around trees along the water line rather than putting in posts. I am keen to bring the woodland back to health for fauna and flora to thrive. My parents are in their mid-seventies so I have been tasked with the project of restoring the woodland.

My initial thoughts are to find a local organisation or university with a woodland management course and offer up my parents woodland as a practical project for the student(s). To do this, I will seek funding from the Woodland Trust to pay for this. Does this sound like a good plan?

My knowledge of trees is limited so I very much welcome all advice and tips from other woodland owners.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks, Abi

Hullo,
I am a new member with a wood between Grittleton and Castle Coombe.
I've had the wood for 5 years and started from a position of ignorance.
Happy to talk about the lessons I've learnt. Main one is that woods take a lot of time.
