Vermin Control

Topics that don't easily fit anywhere else!

Postby daniel070883 » Tue Aug 30, 2011 2:27 pm

Hi,

Im a member of a Vermin Control Club and provide vermin control on a regular basis at various farmland and woodland areas over bedfordshire and sussex.

Ive been involved in this for a long tome now and am looking for land in the Surrey area which is needing pest control.

All the pest control is carried out with a .22 pcp air rifle so no noisy shotguns or rifles.

Rabbits

Pigeons

Squirrels

Corvids

Rats, Mice

Fox (in some cases)

There is no charge as this is my hobby.

Please contact me if you are interested or can help at all ?

I can provide references etc.

Thanks

hello Daniel,

thanks for popping in.

What might be of interest is: do you have an FAC?

Hi Daniel,

I hope I am misunderstanding your post. Do you really shoot foxes with a .22 PCP air rifle?

Persakerly why I asked Sussexboy! Only and above 12ftlb PCP would be considered humane from my understanding.

I'm sure that my PCP running at 50ft/lbs would drop a fox but I wouldn't do it. I have dropped fox with a .22 rimfire but prefer my .243 with a Barnes Varmint Grenade handload

I only use the PCP for tree rats

Virtually any centre fire round will do the job humanely, but not a rimfire or air rifle. Although the latter two may do the job under certain circumstances, they are the wrong tool. You could possibly cut a tree down with a pen knife, but in reality you just wouldn't.

There is a lot of discussion about using .22LR and .17HMR rimfire rounds for fox, but they don't tick all the boxes for me, only some of them.

Hi,

No i do not have a FAC hence why i said (im some cases) as i would be able to get another member who has an open FAC to carry out fox problems with either a .22 Rimfire or .243

I just use .22 Air Rifles and also have a shotgun certificate.

If there is anything i could help with please let me know.

Cheers

Daniel, I can't believe you do this for fun, and from what it seems, without proper training and equipment. Why don't you do something more positive in your life, like getting involved in conservation?

I can't speak for Daniel, but many people like him do get involved on conservation work. They help the landowners to look after the land that they shoot over. This is something that often gets overlooked because it is just something that is done and nobody makes a noise about it. Perhaps they should??

If it wasn't for people like Daniel many species would soon be lost or endangered within the British Isles.

If you look at the list he is willing to help control with the exception of rabbits the others have very few predators, just because he does it free if charge does that make him a lesser person?. I wonder what his views are on rioters and looters, people who fly tip, benefit cheats, pick pockets, drug dealers, car thieves, bullies, etc, etc.

The guy has offerred a service which some poeple actually need, it is 100% within the law, why knock it.
