Congratulations!

First thing to NOT do is panic.

Insurance is a good idea - have a look at this thread about beechtree insurance http://www.swog.org.uk/forum/topic.php?id=338 and this article http://www.swog.org.uk/news/woodland-insurance/ or there's RAP insurance http://www.r-a-p.co.uk/, which I use (£120 per year - beechtree premium is variable).

Get in touch with your local friendly FC office and get someone round for a chat - they'll tell you what you can do, if you can get grants, etc.

My house insurance is with NFU Mutual & the woodland insurance is only an extra £50- a year.

NFU Mutual also do an extended home insurance policy that can cover land away or adjoining a home.

Don't rush, check things are safe, see what you have in terms of species, diversity and mixed ages and compare to similar plots and what you might wish to do to manage it long term...
