Independent Foresty Panel Report

Postby docsquid » Wed Jul 04, 2012 12:10 pm

The report is now online at The DEFRA Website

No sell-off of publicly-owned forests, and significant recommendations around incentivising access, new woodland creation, support for woodland businesses in the context of the green economy, timber production, and support for management, even if not part of woodland grant schemes, which they recommend are preserved and expanded. Lots of interesting reading in this report. Would be lovely to see everybody's views on this, even if it doesn't directly affect you.

I don't think that there is much new here for woodland owners, just the normal emphasis on public access and obsession with new planting. No recognition, let alone solutions, to the problems of trespass, theft, flytipping and vandalism posed by "the public". No opportunity to quiz the authors on any aspects of the report because the panel has disbanded.

On the other hand, the British Woodlands 2012 survey is quite impressive in its breadth and depth of questions, and is well worth taking the trouble to fill in.
