I went ferreting today, but it wasn't very successful. Rabbits need it to be very quiet "up top" for them to bolt, even when faced with a sharp-toothed ferret. We had four men and three dogs today and I think the dogs were making too much noise on the stick and leaf strewn floor.
Ferrets were coming up with fur in their claws and rabbit footprints on their heads where fleeing rabbits had kicked back at them, but they weren't bolting into the nets. The guys reckoned it was noise and very large warrens ( possibly very old ) allowing the rabbits to keep running underground.
At the holes we could hear the thumping warning but they weren't coming out.
