shame it takes the theft of your stuff - to write to your neighbours - maybe you can set up a local focus group or something - bit like neighbourhood watch(but for land) where you can email alerts to locals - and get them to be on the lookout for suspicious goings on
we have several "alert" systems in operation in my area - our local police are actually very good at "alerts" but only if you sign up for them - but we get regular email updates on suspicious vehicles, suspected poaching, fuel theft, dog napping etc etc
might be worth looking into - set one up if nothing fits the bill already, in your area - knowing is better than not knowing
