For those unfamiliar with the Darwin awards, they are given to those who come close to taking themselves out by their own stupidity. One year it went to some Palestinians who drove a live carbomb into Isreal but had forgotten to adjust it to Isreali time, so while they were checking the Isreali time, the device went off an hour earlier than they expected, with them in the car.
This however, must be a close runner-up, probably the finest piece of tree surgery you've ever seen. Words fail me.
