Another point to remember is that there isn't always the expanding red ring on the affected body part and a negative test does not mean you are clear of infection.

There is also an info sheet on the HSE web site that you can carry and show your disbeleiving doctor if you show symptoms

I keep a pack of those 'O'Tom' I think it is, tick removers in my bag but happily not come across any in Kent or East Sussex despite the PHE map.

We have ticks everywhere up here, including in the woods. The dog picks them up all the time, and my wife has had one ( a few years ago). Funnily enough, I've never had a single one, and we do check ourselves regularly. That said, I usually wear boots, long socks, and trousers when working in the wood. We usually have a tick-remover handy, and these seem to be quite effective. I know two people personally with Lyme Disease. It affects them both in different ways. One shows symptoms very similar to ME, whereas the other one seems to get repeated heart problems.

Very familliar with ticks having grown up in Africa on timber plantations. My dad was out and about in the bush regularly and standard practice was for my mum to de-tick him when he got in at the end of the day - record daily count was 176 if I recall correctly, but regularly over 100. Never heard of Lymes disease in Africa, but maybe was too young or disinterested to remember.
Been bitten many times myself with only 1 slight local infection from a head that broke off wile trying to remove it. Will have to look up the differences if any between European and African ticks
We always were advised to use the tweezers and always did the trick if you are careful.
Yet to see one on our patch?
