That's my take too - I'm very much at the "Nature looks after herself best" end of the spectrum here (As opposed to the cultural (with it's undeniable associated biodiversity) conservation of coppicing for coppicing sake, where the produce isn't even used.
But Planted Ancient Woodland Sites are a very different matter, and for the next crucial couple of decades careful intervention by humans is probably vital to undo some of the mess they made!
If the woodland you get is all broadleaved, you really will have very little that you "Must" do - as you say the opposite of what you would need to do if you bought a meadow or pasture, or a field to plant trees in.
Enjoy looking around - for me "gut feeling" trumps a tick list everytime (other than freehold and including the mineral and ALL the sporting rights)!
