Tree felling concerns

Topics that don't easily fit anywhere else!

I'm concerned about an area of land that has been cleared of trees.

Is there a facility online that I can search to see if the correct felling licence has been issued or that the felling has taken part under a grant scheme?

Depending on the volume of timber felled unless the site is being cleared for planned development they would need a felling licence issued by your local Forestry Authority (formerly commission).

However, a good place to start would be the tree officer at your your local authority. At this time of year many sites are cleared to avoid nesting issues when building starts later in the season.

You can look for the wood on the FC mapping site, select what you would like to see from the key on the right, felling licences and grants are included.

Example;

http://fortingall.forestry.gov.uk/glade/ccheck/ConstraintsChecker.htm?mode=basic&controls=labels%3atrue%3b&area=100&l=e&c=e&map=england&zoom=gazetteer&feature=Postcode&value=da12+4lh

Catweazle - I've had a grant & felling licence for 12 months, but it is not shown on the FC mapping site - so perhaps not as useful as it could be.

Have you asked the people who own the land/trees? What is it that concerns you?

My concerns are that approximately 3 acres of woodland have been cut down and stoned over in the last 2 months. Several trees have been bulldozed onto the ground and left in situ as they have fallen. This has made me feel slightly uneasy and I'd like to check-up online somehow. I'd prefer not to get involved by asking the settlers there directly, as in some ways of course, its none of my business; but with acres and acres of other valuable woodland surrounding the site, I can't help feeling concerned about its prospects from a nature-lover's point of view.

Unfortunately, I can't seem to get that link to work in my browser, so I am unable to check it right now, but shall try with another computer later on.

The point is Richard that it is a blog. if you dont want people cluttering it up with chat, could I suggest you dont look at it. Think of all the time you would save.
