Woodland research project

Topics that don't easily fit anywhere else!

I would be grateful if you would take the time to fill in my online survey. I am a 3rd year building surveying student at the University of Brighton undertaking research into the potential for local timber to supply the construction industry in the South East of England. With the development of new finger jointing machinery it is possible to manufacture finished joinery components using short lenghts of hard woods. Cladding and composite panels could be sourced and manufactured locally.

The aims of the research are:

1. To establish the amount of local timber being processed at present.

2. To establish the quality of locally grown timber.

3. To establish the current demand for timber products.

4. To establish the potential for increased output.

5. To evaluate the potential increase in the use of locally grown timber products.

With sustainability and carbon issues at the centre of govenment building policy there is a strong case for timber to be sourced locally thus reducing transport miles, contributing to the local economy and helping to regenerate our woodlands.

Please click this link to access the survey. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/JFR7899

I will make a copy of the research available to all respondents.

Thank you in advance.
