Fly-tipping

Topics that don't easily fit anywhere else!

Hello,

A day after reading the 'Unfortunate Incident' post I was strolling along the green lane that is access to a few fields and my own plot and discovered about 20 tyres dumped in the edge of the brook at the side of the trackway.

Most of them have been cut with a disc saw, which would suggest someone changing tyres or removing them from rims without using a tyre-house...

The local Council have an on-line report form, so I've filled one in - as I can't just take them en-masse to my local waste transfer station as they are classed as specialist / trade waste.

The NFU, Farmers Weekly, Farmers Guardian and a few other groups are all trying to highlight the problems and blight of fly-tipping and a few councils use legislation to tackle persons involved if they can be identified.

For folks in Cheshire (Other Councils will have similar):

I did hear a story recently of someone who, cleared a length of river close to his home of tyres, all at his own expense, the council then wanted to charge him £2 each to dispose of them!

The temptation yesterday was to chuck them in the back of the Landrover and off to the Council transfer site - but having heard of disposal problems and charges, I've reported the tipping for now (being as it's along a footpath and in a watercourse) - will look further into appropriate disposal next week.

Because the tyres are cut through for them to have been removed from wheel-rims, my guess is someone who is reluctant to use a tyre-house and therefore up to other potentially illegal activities.

Some remote woodland I look over on the Welsh Shropshire Border has had 2 discarded safes in 2 years - one with the hinges cut off with a disc-saw and another with an oxy-gas hole cut through...

Fly-tipped tyres reported on the Friday morning, cleared away by Monday afternoon - excellent response by Cheshire West & Chester Local Authority.
