Charcoal Courses

Topics that don't easily fit anywhere else!

Hello

The Bulworthy Project is an experiment in low impact living and working. We produce charcoal in our woodland in Rackenford, Devon. We also run courses in charcoal production and sustainable harvesting of wood. These courses emphasise the role that charcoal production plays in habitat management. The full course takes 24 hours and gives the participants hands-on experience of charcoal production. This course is suitable for those who intend to produce charcoal themselves and those who wish to experience the process. We also run a 1 hour course where we explain the process of charcoal production and give a guided walk through our woodland explaining habitat-management. The 24 hour course costs £70 per person and the 1 hour course costs £5 per person. Either can be adapted to the interests of the individual.

Our products and services are endorsed under the Devon Wildlife Trust approval scheme.

As a small start-up business, we are looking to market our services and would be most grateful if you would pass on our details to anyone who you feel may be interested.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Just wanted to say a big, big thank you to Pete and Anna.

We visited the Bulworthy Project last week, to attend a charcoal making course.

They run group courses; however, this one was tailored specifically to our needs, covering woodland

management directly relevant to our own land, as well as charcoal making.

The hosts Pete and Anna were knowledgeable tutors, very friendly and really made us feel at home.

They have a very good knowledge of everything they covered, from the charcoal-making process itself, to the diverse wildlife in their woodland, and even planning law.

They have created a wonderful woodland and a very homely working area with a nice clean composting toilet and even a hot shower, which was most welcome after a day of sorting through charcoal.

We have to thank them for the lovely and informative 24 hours or so that we spent with them.

We came away, not just with a knowledge of charcoal-making, but also inspired and energized in relation to what we could achieve in our own woodland.
